Garfagnana

Garfagnana is one of the lessor known parts of Tuscany, a land rich in history and natural beauty with many beautiful views across rivers, lakes, valleys, hills and mountains. It is very mountainous, positioned between the Apuan Alps and the Apennines, which is an area many consider as one of the most beautiful parts of Tuscany. Garfagnana contains the largest of the Italian National Parks, which stretches over 50 square kilometres. The highest point is Mount Prado, at 2,054 metres. The woodland in this region is highly prized, and contains over 10,000 hectares of oak, chestnut, spruce, maple and beech.





Garfagnana is within easy reach of many well-known towns such as Castelnuovo, Garfagnana's capital, Lucca, the birthplace of Pucini and Bagni di Lucca which are all well served with road, and rail links. There are airports at Pisa and Florence, which is itself only a couple of hours drive away.
