Wine & Taranta Fest (W&TF) is southern Italy’s most awaited summer event, now in its seventh edition. Thanks to the participation of an ever-increasing number of players including local institutions, local firms, associations and artists, today the event is able to attract not only locals but also tourists from outside the region.
The WTF takes place in the second weekend of July in Teora, a town of around 2000 citizens located in upper Irpinia, the green heart of the Campania region. Teora is characterized by a rich heritage of history, culture, food, and wine. The aim of the W&TF is precisely to enhance the resources of the territory in a three-day event dedicated to traditional popular music known throughout the world, which is the taranta combined with tastings of local wine and typical local products.
The event is designed as a journey where walking along the historical centre’s main streets, people can taste fine local wines and typical products made available by cellars, wineries and qualified chefs, observe the creative ability of craftsmanship and listen to music live.
Food plays a key role within the event. There are many local firms that participate by preparing typical dishes such as fresh handmade pasta with offal in sauce (named SUFFRITT'), local meats cooked on the grill, fresh and mature cheeses from local producers and seasonal fruit at km 0.
Live music is also a major attractions of the Wine & Taranta Fest, with the presence of local folk groups and artists linked to the taranta musical movement. The last edition ended with success among the public which exceeded 10000 attendees over three days, hosting the most famous taranta orchestra from Puglia, named La Notte della Taranta.
